Have you ever wondered where the innkeeper’s wife was when the innkeeper declared that there were no more rooms at his inn? Author Lynda M. Wilson tells the story of the holy night of Jesus’ birth through this fictionalized account from the innkeeper’s wife’s perspective.
The little town of Bethlehem could barely hold travelers who came for Passover, so when it was decreed that all Judeans must return to their ancestral home, the city overflowed with travelers and their literally was no room at the inn. Yet when Hannah, the innkeeper’s wife, saw the young couple, the young girl obviously due with a child, she couldn’t bear to turn them away. It was at her stable and with her help that the Savior of the World came into mortality, and it was a night she’d never forget.
I have to admit that after I finished reading “The Innkeeper’s Wife”, my first thoughts were, “That’s it?” I knew it wouldn’t be a grandiose story considering the fact that the book is only 40 short pages long, but I thought it would have a little bit more…life…to it. It’s basically the same story you’ll get out of the Bible, only in a prettier picture book with another woman besides Mary involved.
Still, it would make a nice little gift for the holidays. You can find “The Innkeeper’s Wife: The Rest of the Christmas Story” at Amazon.com and at DeseretBook.com.
